Can’t-Miss Events for Your Summer Marketing Calendar

Be proactive.  If there’s one rule you should always follow, this is it.   As an online retailer, you’re familiar with the dangers of getting into reactive situations -- yes, you know, the ones that almost always end in sleepless nights and sub-optimal results.  Your calendars are probably marked with the big upcoming dates like 4th of July and back to school shopping but, let’s not neglect the bevy of events that can be catalysts for online sales in the months of July and August.   

By outlining specific marketing initiatives and targeting a few important and quirky dates through promotions, social media, and advertising, you’ll be on your way to increasing summer spending for your company and generating stronger brand awareness that will carry you through the rest of the year.  

Q3 is truly an exciting time for online retailers.  Across the board, consumers are all buying more on the web.  In fact, online retail sales are expected to jump to $370 billion by 2017.  Add that to the fact that, even in the warmer months, over 50% of millennials are still browsing for products online, and you actually end up with a great pool (no pun intended) of consumers to market to.  

In 2007, E-commerce retail sites generated just under $35 million in sales during Q3.  Eight years later, Q3 online retail sales brought in almost $88 million in revenue.  Adjusting for inflation, that’s still over 100% growth!  The best part: we don’t see any sign of this trend slowing down.  Needless to say, if you’re an online retailer, July and August are now exhilarating months for business and pose a huge sales opportunity.

So, before you take off for the beach, give some thought to how you can promote your brand during this warmer time of year.  Whether it comes in the form of sales, increased social media postings, or an extra advertising push, July and August will prove to be priceless promotion when it’s go-time for fall and holiday spending.
